What a grade actually means

1 min read

There is no single international ruler for honey grades, so sellers use the word loosely. When we grade a batch, we look at four things together: the source of the nectar, the harvest window, and what you can see and taste in the jar — colour uniformity, texture, and the intensity of the aroma.

A grade is only as honest as the seller behind it. That is why we state the origin of every honey, name the tree or valley it comes from, and answer questions about each batch's journey — the details are what a grade is supposed to summarise.

Key points

  • Grade = source + harvest + colour, texture and aroma.
  • Ask any seller what their grade is based on — a good one can answer.
  • Price tracks scarcity: short blooms and top grades cost more.
